Alfie

Dialynne Ace Of Spades At Dughallmor

DOB 29th January 2006

Hi, i'm Alfie and i'm 3 years old. My hobbies are, first and foremost, eating anything I can get my paws on, going for long walks on the beach where it is my duty as a dog to scare all seagulls away before returning to my Mum's side incase she gets the biscuits out again.........and keeping my housemates in check............especially Snoop, well you've got to let them know who's boss, haven't you?! Occasionally I like to do a disappearing act and frighten the life out of my humans but I haven't done that for ages! I also love going to shows and think i'm quite good at it.......I didn't win much last year but we were just starting out........this year I moved up to the Big Boy class and since January I have been Best of Breed 8 times and been placed in the Group each time except once. I go to Obedience classes at Spey Valley DTC and really enjoy it, I get to meet new friends and eat loads of treats! I passed my Bronze and Silver first try and i'm now working towards my Gold, Mum says if I can stay put for 2 minutes i'll do it. Sometimes we do Agility at class which is great fun..........Jenny (one of my teachers) says i'm quite good at it and it's Mum who needs training!

Update: I passed my Gold GCDS in December!

Edited 19th April 2009:

I am very happy and proud to announce that today at Perth Open Show Alfie was Best of Breed and Hound Group 4th. This has given him the last two points required for his Show Certificate of Merit (subject to Kennel Club approval) and he will now retire from the showring....well, maybe....I love showing this boy and he so enjoys it!

For those of you who are interested Alfie's ShCM has been made up as follows: (We haven't received critiques for all shows but those we have appear in italics)

12/01/2008 Bon-Accord BOB & G4 Judge Aileen Sharpe (...substantial male, dark tri, very sturdy, balanced and strong mover. Clean outline, masculine head, eye could be darker. Lightly arched neck, level topline, held well on the move with good length and depth of ribbing. Moved true from the rear with excellent driving action, splendidly handled)

13/04/2008 Cambuslang BOB & G4 Judge Mr D Iley

24/05/2008 Carluke BOB & G3 Judge Mr P Selby (...male Hound of good size and type, moved and showed well)

31/05/2008 Banff, Moray & Nairn BOB & G4 Judge George Earl

20/07/2008 Fife BOB & G2 Judge Mr Swinburn (...excellent type, super head, very good outline, very strong front & quarters, showed and moved really well, typical Hound)

09/08/2008 Tayside & Lochee BOB Judge Mrs Pam Wild

16/08/2008 Larkhall BOB & G4 Judge Mr B Henry (...well bred tri, lovely head & expression, good neck & shoulders, stands on strong bone with best of feet, his best movement comes when moved at pace)

28/09/2008 Angus & Kincardine BOB & G1 Judge Eve Hamilton (...outstanding well balanced dog, correct length, excellent muscle and lovely bone, no mistaking he's a male but has a lovely gentle expression, moved well in his class and in the challenge)

25/10/2008 Banff, Moray & Nairn BOB Judge Geoff Clark

24/01/2009 Bon-Accord BOB Judge Audrey Bell (...pleasing head & expression, sound in construction, balanced movement, presented well)

19/04/2009 Perthshire BOB & G4 Judges Jason Lynn & Mrs C Rankin

Many thanks to all the judges who have thought so highly of Alfie and helped him to achieve his ShCM in just over a year.

That is so awesome (or pawsome, I should say...); I wondered if you all showed, and now I see that you do! Congratulations -- I know your Mum is hugely pleased! What an accomplishment!
p.s. I don't know if your Mum likes murder mysteries, but if she does, she might like Susan Conant's dog lover's mysteries -- all about the show circuit. I've never shown dogs, but I love reading about it. These books are hugely entertaining!
