Forres Highland Games

On Saturday it was the Highland Games here in Forres....the humans decided to go over for a looksee. Mum took like a hundred videos....and hardly any photos!

We start with some Highland dancing, the Sword Dance was so cool.....hey, is that Marvin?

It sounds really windy in some of these videos, infact it was a gorgeous sunny day (for the first games in years!) and the gentle breeze was barely enough to rouse the flags....

....nevermind the kilts....sorry ladies!

This is the Kintore Pipe Band and they were the pipe band winners of the day.

Next, big blokes chucking heavy stuff around....spinach anyone?

How to toss the Caber....

....and how NOT to!

Tug-o-war...a bit dull!

The highlight of the games was the massed pipe bands, when all the competing bands perform together.

Alfie looking unimpressed....the burger van beckons!

We used to love going to the Scottish games in New York. Didn't much like the food, though. We told everyone that Bentley was a new breed of tall Scotties.

Alfie has the right idea - focussing on the burger vans! (Did you get any, pal?)
Cheers, H.

Mom says there are Highland Games in North Carolina, probably near the Thundering Herd, and she would love to see them again!

We love the whole works, the dancers, the bagpipe bands, tossing heavy stuff about. Its great fun and we are glad you could take us both along today.

Kisses,
Stella

That was so much fun to see. Your Mom has a lot of patience to be able to upload that many videos.

Alfie - adorable as always.

I am sure Alfie was just worried about me to get into all the events. =) Looked like a lot of fun though. Looking forward to this Saturday, finally back in your paws.

Really neat, Nicky! I got a taste of Scottish Highland dancing when we vacationed in Nova Scotia in 2004 and loved it. Some day, we will get to Scotland and see that art in person again.

I hope you are well and I hope to chat soon.

We loved the video of the Highland Games and all that dancing. Looks a little bit like the Irish dancing that Big Sis does! I can also do a decent Irish gig - if someone here would ever video it!! Now, that she has realised how to upload her videos - you never know!!

Great that the sun shone for the Games though - it all looked wondeful fun!

Take care

Mom and dad went to a highland games here a long time ago. Mom really enjoyed. She doesn't think they had caber tossing though.

Hi guys,
Its been such a long time!! The videos really capture the atmosphere of the games. We especially like the one of the massed pipe band but wondered if Alfie minded the sound? Dixie would have freaked out.

Looks like a great event! It reminds me of our trip to Scotland more than ten years ago. We went to Edinburgh Military Tattoo then. I love the atmosphere!

We came back to listen to the videos again - and enjoyed them all over again.

The only sad thing -- Mom's friend who died in May was the one who introduced her to the games -- and she kept thinking how much she would have thrilled to see them in Scotland.

Smooches to my sweet Gabbi!!
