Hmmmm....

Wow, thanks for all the comments and advice on the situation with Gus. I felt what alot of you said before I read it but was led to believe that I was overreacting by my M.I.L....."that's just what cats do Nicky" she said.

Anyway, part of the problem has been solved. Last night as we set off to walk the dogs, Gus was sitting outside this woman's kitchen window. We put the dogs away, went back over and called him and he came running over to us. Took him indoors, brushed him, fed him etc and he settled down to sleep quite happy. Without having a confrontation we have what we wanted, I think the other neighbour (the one who told us where he was) has maybe said something to her about how unhappy I was with the whole catnapping thing....and yesterday's post now seems a tad over dramatic!

Thing is, he WAS sitting outside her house.....obviously waiting for her to come back, perfectly free to come home but choosing not to. So, we're feeding only water and dry kibble (we've tried BARF with him but he's not interested) which is what we've always fed him, he gets no tinned meat and no milk (we knew about the lactose thing) and has never known any different, it's what he's used to.....until now. This woman we know has been giving him milk, I suspect she has given him tinned meat too....of course, he's had a taste and wants more. I haven't seen her yet, she was out at work all day yesterday.....but Craig saw her going into her house this morning. He also saw Gus trying to get in with her and her not letting him......HE WANTS TO LIVE WITH HER NOW!! And to make matters worse, the dogs are more excited than ever to see him, he's been away so long.....we're going to have to do a refresher on how to behave around the cat....and stop the chase instinct and pack mentality triggering WW3 every time Gus is around....and maybe a nice tin of sardines once a week to keep him interested!

Anyway, thanks for all the advice....we'll take some of it and keep you posted. Maybe i'll put a card through her door saying thankyou for looking after the cat during the storms but please don't put anymore food out for him!

In the meantime, here are some random videos of how we spent yesterday (since we can't post photos) sorry if they make the page slow-loading....

Dinnertime.

Rosie licks her lips after dinner!

Rosie plays with the cat....

Snoop and Rosie enjoy a game of tag at the park....Alfie gets bossy! (Pardon the noise level, it was pretty windy!)

Hometime.

That's all for now....we're off to begin the mammoth task of visiting you....bear with us, it's gonna take a while!

Hi Beagles!

So sorry - I'm behind on visiting blogs too and have only just finally come to yours so I missed out on your first post about Gus! Anyway, am glad he's "back" - sort of - at least you know where he is and what he's doing! Hope he realises what a nice home he has already with you and stays put!!!

I really enjoyed your videos...what were you guys eating? It looked really yummy! And you know, when you said "Rosie playing with the cat" - I thought you meant Gus! tee! hee! I love the one of you guys running around playing tag too...ooh, but my goodness, Rosie, don't you have a looooooong tongue!!

Slobbers,
Honey the Great Dane

Hello my gorgeous girl (and assorted in-laws!),

Like Honey, I thought Rosie was playing with Gus for a second there and thought "No wonder he ran away!" Maybe Gus will just go across the street for the occasional dinner, but spend the rest of his time with you. I'm glad to see my Rosie is such a lady-like diner, as opposed to noisy Gabbi! And Alfie seemed to be doing the dishes, cleaning up all the bowls.

And while I'm sorry you still have to wear the red lead, it sure made it easier to spot you in that blur of black, tan and white!

Our official wedding (as opposed to our trip to City Hall) is almost a week away!!!

Love,

Your Petey

glad to hear gus is home. i'm sure the junk food is enticing (who doesn't want it more than the healthy stuff), but you're doing what's best for him. he'll live longer and be your happy cat.

Cats aren't exactly known for their loyalty. If the neighbor has food he prefers, he'll probably go back there. He has you right where he wants you, bidding for his affections.

No wonder I prefer dogs.

Ummn, maybe Gus takes a look at the stuffee cat that the gang plays with, tosses, jerks around, and sees a portent of things to come. Could that be his problem? That and the tinned meat/fish?

Think about it . . .how would you feel?

Kisses,
Stella

Hi Beagles!
I love the video of you all having supper. So good to see that I'm not the only one who licks the plate thoroughly. Waste not want not, I say!
Cheers, H.
PS Glad to hear that the neighbour/Gus situation seems to be resolved.

Are you sure Rosie didn't just put lip gloss on for some smooching with Petey? he he. and of course this past year I met the guy of my dreams Alfie, but that is for a later post, I am almost at 200!! and I will have a quiz about me =)

I had lots of catching up to do as mom's been so busy, she hasn't commented either lately. You have lots of news! We have a neighbor who loves to feed Ozzie, our cat, too - very annoying, but we've tried to work out a schedule as this is a lonely lady, and Ozzie came from a few blocks over from a lady who abandoned her, so... it sort of works out, although O. knows her home is here. I love the vids! I should learn a lesson from them - eat neatly and slowly - with manners. But.. I don't think I'll learn that very quickly, which is how I tend to scarf down my bkfast and dinner!

Sammie

wow, tempted by the fruit (or canned meat) of another. Cats are strange little buggers aren't they. We think the card is a good idea, glad you were able to resolve it peacefully.
