Hello furries and peeps! We've been away from Blogland for so long, but after visiting only a few blogs today we realise that there's alot of heartache going on and it's mostly been caused by ticks.
There's Digby who has had a very bad reaction to a tick bite........and Petey's HHI friend Lulubelle who has Rocky Mountain Tick Fever. Paws crossed they both make a full recovery, and soon.
Our Mum has a friend who has suspected Lyme disease and she's really suffering with it. This awful disease is caused by being bitten by an infected tick. It is easily treated in it's early stages with antibiotics but in later stages can attack the nervous system and cause all sorts of terrible symptoms.....and all due to a long-forgotten bite from a tiny bloodsucking critter!
Lecture over.....we're off to do more visiting....it's great to have decent service at last!
15 sniffy tailwags:
hey guys! wanted to drop by and say hey. when Mom puts up some pics from the trip we took and some from the dog shows, she just loved the 15 inch beagle in group. (though she was having troubles with camera and doesn't remember if she got a good pic of him.)
Ticks...what are they good for!
Hugs

Ticks cause lots of bad diseases. Tsar had Ehrlichiosis at one time. He's well now after treatment, but it seems to always stay in your system.
We want to get one of those pins to show how concerned about this.
Wooos Beagles and my Snoop! we will have to start back up now won't we. I missed woo all, although there are quite a few sweet looking boys I have had my eyes on since woo have been gone, but woo have not been replaced in my heart,... yet.....

Hi guys! I'm glad you're back in Blogland and I hope you come to visit me soon!
Yes, my humans have had to take a crash course in ticks too! We had some back in NZ but just pests that give you itchy bites - whereas here in Australia, they have the paralysis tick which many doggies die from every year and it's really scary and my humans have to check me over everytime I come back from a walk in the park...such a pain!
Slobbers,
Honey the Great Dane
Ticks can be very dangerous. With the thick coats we have, it is often very hard to find them. We have always been on a preventative program.
Welcome back.
Woos - Phantom, Thunder, and Ciara

That's a big, long-overdue kiss to Rosie who I feared had abandoned me!

I'm sure ticks fill some sort of ecological purpose, but I'd be willing to see if we could do without it.
Excellent post! Ticks are nasty things! Our aunt was sick from Lyme Disease for quite a while - but she's OK now!

We treat our cats and dogs with anti-tick and -flea stuff. Wish we could wear a collar or get those drops in our neck too, because I got bitten by a tick last year and still suffer from the dreaded Lyme disease. Fortunately my only symptom is that I can be very tired sometimes. Nothing worse. Little buggers!
Good post!
